Pakiri Beach

It was a beautiful and enchanting morning at a truly unique location. Moreover, the beach was practically deserted, which enhanced the overall ambiance. Now, it's time to put on some swimwear and go for a swim while the sun is out. Hopefully, the water is as enjoyable as the atmosphere of the beach this morning.

The beach is absolutely breathtaking with its white sand. It's just a short 2-minute walk from the carpark, making it convenient for a day out. It's not crowded, which makes it perfect for a beach barbecue. Additionally, it's an excellent spot for surfing and you can swim for as long as you like. Another bonus is the friendly neighborhood.

Pakiri Beach is a stunning white sand beach that stretches for kilometers along the coastline. It's known for its popularity among surfers and offers a variety of activities such as swimming, walking, and horse riding. The beach is also home to the Pakiri river, which flows into the sea and creates a large estuary. Unfortunately, the traditional beach access from the car park is now closed by the iwi, so visitors must take a longer walk and cross a small stream to reach this beautiful beach. However, the effort is worth it as you'll be rewarded with breathtaking views of the Great Barrier Island and numerous other islands in the Hauraki Gulf. The beach provides ample parking space, a few picnic benches, and toilet facilities.

A significant portion of the beach was closed off with signs indicating it was private property. Two individuals approached us and attempted to force us to leave, even though we were nowhere near the sign. One of them verbally harassed our children and elderly members, and even went so far as to grab our food from our hands, causing it to spill onto the sand. The other individual claimed ownership of the entire beach, stating that the public was only allowed access because they granted permission. Eventually, we had to involve the police, who informed us that such incidents occurred frequently and advised us to avoid the other side of the beach. Please be cautious and refrain from visiting the other side of the beach as it is not under government control.

The beach is stunning, with peaceful white sand and not too many people around. Although the road to get there is bumpy, it's definitely worth the journey. The sea water meets a gentle stream, providing a safe place for kids to enjoy without any concerns about depth, while still having some small waves for fun. We're planning to return soon and stay for an extended period, camping in a tent.
